About Us
Basti Ram is a UK registered charity (1137644) that provides learning opportunities to underprivileged communities in England and in India.
In England we work with vulnerable* young people, to provide positive learning experiences that build skills, confidence and a renewed sense of belonging to their home communities.
In India, we partner with grassroots organizations who work with communities in need. We provide our partner organisations with facilities and manpower, which in turn stimulates community development.
Our two work streams come together through our Beyond Boundaries Project which gives UK young people the opportunity to travel, to experience a new culture, learn new skills, and build memories in India that will last a lifetime.
*We define vulnerable as young people who have experienced the care system in England, either as a child in need, a child in care or a child at risk of significant harm.
Basti Ram's 2030 Vision
Our 2030 vision is to facilitate all vulnerable young people aged 13 - 17 * in London who have a passion for travel but lack the financial means to take part, to access subsidised places on our BEYOND BOUNDARIES program in India and to use the skills learned to actively volunteer in their own communities on return to the UK.
Beyond Boundaries is a 6 month cross cultural learning experience designed to stretch young people out of their comfort zone, both emotionally and physically. We believe that by realizing the power of travel there is no end to what a person can achieve.
We define *vulnerable* as young people who have experienced the care system in England, either as a child in need, a child in care or a child at risk of significant harm.
To achieve our vision we work to:
1. Provide commissioned services and apply for funding that benefits vulnerable young people.
2. Undertake fundraising activities.
3. Work in partnership with our sponsors and partner agencies to deliver the Beyond Boundaries program.
4. Offer subsidised bursaries for vulnerable young people to take part in the Beyond Boundaries Project by overseeing the application process for this. The number of bursaries we are able to offer is dependent on our income.
